Our Story

The story of Hope Church began long before we were aware, but God had already started preparing the way. In 2016, at Crossroads Baptist Church in The Woodlands, Pastor Larry York and Missions/Church Planting Pastor, Justin Dancer, began a conversation about starting a church in the Woodforest area.

In January 2018, Justin Dancer, his family, and a core team of about 30 from Crossroads began to hold once a month services on Sunday nights at an elementary school in Woodforest. When long term plans of meeting at the school did not work out as hoped, we moved to Lone Star Elementary School and officially kicked off with Sunday morning weekly services on April 14, 2019.

We met regularly as a core team for prayer, teaching, encouragement, and having church family meals together. We went out in the community, hosting neighborhood block parties, a sports camp, and kindness outreaches. We started adult small groups, and discipleship groups and were excited as we watched our kids ministry and youth ministry begin to grow. Many surrendered their lives to Christ and grew deeper in their journey with God.

We also enjoyed setting up and tearing down each week while we met at the school. It was hard work, but there was joy and a sweet fellowship that was built among those that helped. And then March 2020 happened - the world shut down from the Covid pandemic and we were suddenly without a place to meet.

While we had been meeting at Lone Star Elementary, we began to befriend a church community right next to the school, called Honea Baptist Church. This community of believers had been in Montgomery for 100 years.

In May 2020, the members of Honea Baptist, decided to close as a church and graciously gave us their property. We completed renovations on the building in November 2020 and we are humbled and grateful for the gift of a permanent location.

You will see "Hope Church Woodforest" on many of our things because we thought Woodforest would be our home. When we moved to the new property, we changed our name to Hope Church Montgomery to reflect the community where we reside.

What does the future look like?
